I've looked to see if anyone else has been raving about this band and their debut album which came out a couple of weeks ago, but I can't find anything. I'm suprised.

I don't remember enjoying or being moved by an album so much since 'Deserter's songs' by Mercury Rev which was 10 years ago (incredibly).

The album is a beautiful mix of Beach Boys/The Band harmonies and these melodies that either hook you instantly and warm your very soul or slowly slip into your subconscious and make you wake up in the morning and the first thing you want to do is play the album. I can't remember the last time an album did that. White winter hymnal is a strange, beautiful song. I think it's a single, which is touching in itself. Meadowlark, Your protector and Blue ridge mountains are my current faves, but it changes every few days.

I agree. I saw them the week before last and they didn't disappoint.

I dunno. I think I'll have to get them worn in a bit. At the moment they sound like CSN&Y with an echo chamber.

They were in Montreal Tuesday, unfortunately they played a great but very small venue, the show sold out before I got there.

Downloaded the album, but haven't listened to it closely yet. I like what I've heard so far. I also got the re-release of Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue, and it's nice to listen to the two of them near each other (you know what I mean).

The album omits my favourite song of theirs . . .

Can't get into them at all. Been bombarded by emails from their PR people for the last six months or so but I'm not convinced and I'm always a bit suspicious of anything that gets accepted by the media so quickly.

Anyone remember the James Gang?

I would say that their Deacon Blue meets Flying Pickets sound took me a while, but it's a really lovely record once you've climbed completely inside it. And Mykonos is a winner from the first play.

I didn't realise there was much hype about them.

The single reminds me a little of the Hidden Cameras. It's pleasant enough, but it feels like a necessary ingredient is missing somewhere. (Lyrics of explicit gay sex perhaps.)

I heard 'English House' from their Sun Giant EP some months back and was really struck by it. The album came out and while I enjoyed it, there is nothing on it remotely as good as that particular track.
