Yes - and there's at least three definitions of the word 'gag' that I think would be applicable.

Well, EIM, that's my theory. But as someone mentioned on a thread on the old board, there's millions of followers, and big elaborate buildings, and people have been 'believers' for hundreds (nay thousands) of years, so it must be real.

In any case it's

"Do you beliewe in Rock and Roll?"

--->

"Can music save your mortal soul?"

--->

"Because the Bible tells you so?"

As enni fule know.

I think Guy's original post is missing the point by a wide, wide, mark.

The whole point of religion is the dogmatic adherence to, and comfort you draw from, something you can't justify rationally. That's the fucking point. It's called FAITH. That "wheel of crap" thing therefore not only makes perfect sense, it actually DEMONSTRATES the mindset of those with a religious belief. So it's actually very, very cleverly done.

I BELIEVE Liverpool will win the Premiership with Rafa Benitez as manager. I do. I believe it. Why? Because Rafa tells me they will. And I want them to. We just need to pray for a decent left-back, a replacement for Jamie C, and a partner for St. Fernando of the Lone Furrow.

Some people's faith is dogmatic, yes. But I'd say that having faith is rather pragmatic.

That graphic applies to Evangelicals and some Protestant Christians, but certainly not to all of Christianity.

Maybe you would. But you'd have to explain why for it to be anything more than white noise.

Faith isn't necessarily dogmatic or rigid. Most people's faith is rather vague and amorphous.

Yes, because that's exactly what we all think is how our religious beliefs are justified.

Or, what Reed and Yogi said.

sigh...
