Maybe it was just instinct (or maybe it was their personalities), but I'd figured Keegan and Hughes for wrong 'uns years before I saw that photo for the first time.

Who's the guy on the far left of the photo who appears to be copping a look at Thatcher's arse?

And why is Trevor Brooking apparently either having a divine revelation or approaching the throes of sexual ecstacy?

That's Kenny Sansom copping a look at the Thatcher rear.

In fairness to Keegan, he'd probably do a photo-op with Robert Mugabe, he's just that sort of guy.

Also, are we sure Mick Mills was a Tory? He's looking at Thatcher as if he's trying to figure out how to do her in.

That's an odd way to defend someone's political leanings...

We could stick Oleg Blokhin on the wing.

Let them learn from Shevchenko or Blokhin and not from some Zumba-Bumba whom they took off a tree, gave him two bananas and now he plays in the Ukrainian League. But is there any sense in beating up a foreigner? Okay, you beat him up - next thing he does is pack up and go.

This fella off goalkeepersaredifferent.com (thanks Howl) could probably get a look in:

War criminal
During the Second World War, former Estonian international goalkeeper Evald Mikson became the leader of Tallin's facist organisation, Hestapo, after the Germans occupied the country. He fled to Sweden in 1944 before settling in Iceland and becoming an Icelandic citizen in 1955. He was later found by the Israeli government at the end of the 1980s and they tried to deport him to Israel to face trial for alleged war crimes. But Miksond died before any possible deportation.

It seems to have been a comparatively isolated incident with him, unlike Bowyer, and all the indications were that he was a completely reformed character after his time in Spain.

I seem to remember Buffon initially explaining the "88" by saying how all the ultras loved the number when he was growing up, and being somewhat dismayed to hear why...

So what did 888 do for you to be considered "lucky"? And have 8 and 888 brought in massive dividends, then?

Mind you, I am impressed by all those eights.

I'm relieved to learn that Buffon is an imbecile, not a fascist.

I Germany it was normal that football players were by default CDU. Even my beloved Pierre Littbarski.

Weren't there rumours about Carsten Jancker shaved head was more to do with political leanings than fashion?

They don't do anything. They just exist and make me a lucky kind of fella.

I was in a casino in Glasgow a couple of years back and a Chinese woman, who was a regular on the blackjack tables, and full of superstitions, started jabbering away at me in Chinese. The croupier explained that she felt I was lucky, and she started betting heavily on my cards as well as hers. I ended up winnning a tidy sum, but she got a fortune. The croupier said she'd never done anything like that before, and was quite amazed.

Which was nice.
