Hmm, on reflection I'll go for Germany. What does it say about a culture/language that they need to warn you in advance that a remark you're about to read will be either exclamatory or interrogatory. Condescending goofballs, do they assume everyone lacks the necessary anticipatory ability?

Which reminds me, I must get out there to watch a match sometime.

I like the upside down exclamation and question marks. They lend an air of overexcitement or utter confusion.

I'm hoping for a Spain win and an Aragones heart attack.

In 1974, that wanker Aragones was a member of the Atletico Madrid team who kicked and hacked and spat and punched Celtic out of the European Cup semi-finals (no fewer than four of them were sent off at Celtic Park).

The final was at Hampden Park against Bayern Munich and, after 114 goalless minutes, Aragones scored with a free-kick. Five more minutes ticked by. The repulsive hatchet-men of Atletico were about to be champions of Europe.

Then the great Georg Schwarzenbeck, who I will buy a beer if I ever meet him, sent a 40-yard daisy-cutter skidding along the grass and beyond the despairing reach of Pepe Reina's dad. The referee blew the final whistle a couple of moments afterwards.

There was a replay a few days later, and Atletico lost 4-0.

It would be nice if Aragones could once again be kicked savagely hard in the balls by Fate on Sunday.

My dad was at that game, he said they weren't afraid to get stuck-in all right.

Another strong contender for the most spurious Old Firm related post of the tournament from Hiero there. You really ought to calm down about games before you were born. (Although all reports I read agreed that Atletico were cynical, violent thugs even by the standards of the time).

I don't know, Jonathan. I mean, there are only so many ways (one, basically) to say "do you really have to drone on about Euro 2008 players', referees' and coaches' peripheral links with Celtic years/ decades ago?".

I'll type what I like without having it vetted by you first, thanks.

Now, isn't it about time that you posted another picture of David Healy and met your quota for the week?

Sunday evening, perhaps. I'm waiting to see whether Villa's injury is a bluff, with him recovering at the last moment to get a hat trick in the final and pip Lord Killyleagh as leading scorer for the whole thing. It's 13-11 at present.

Unlike most on this thread I will be cheering Germany on to a workmanlike fluky win on Sunday. This is not unconnected to the bet I have riding on them.

It was only when I popped in to a very sorry-for-itself Niketown yesterday that I realised we have an all-Adidas final tomorrow.
