I just received a little plastic keyring in the post with the words 'BRETT ANDERSON' on it. Upon closer inspection, and a bit of manual jiggery-pokery to expose a copper-coloured chip thing, it turns out to be his new album.

I'm sure he isn't the first person to do this, but it's the first one I've ever owned.

Didn't the dude from Nine Inch Nails put their album on USB sticks and let them lay around in public toilets to piss off (as it were) his record company? Or something like that.

Actually, thinking about it, some PR person gave me a USB stick a few years ago at Reading, but I didn't know what I was supposed to do with it so I threw it away.

The White Stripes released these:

It's a horrible trend though. I can't imagine going into a shop and buying an album on a USB stick.

it's very environmentally unfriendly too, in terms of the resources it takes to create memory sticks.

Kylie Minogue released her last album on USB, I saw it in HMV and it would've cost £25. Can't see why anybody would go for this. Just imagine... somewhere in the future there might be people whose entire music collections are contained in little boxes in digital format. Oh...
