Although I guess the fact that none of these bands have come within sniffing distance of the charts reflects the layout of music nowadays. I love the fact that Bruno Brookes (or whoever it was then) had to play To Here Knows When, cause the EP went in at number 24; now you've got the experimental bits siphoned off over there, and some vacuous Big Sound in the chart.

I've still got different tinnitus to the usual, iPod-related stuff thanks to the gig. Sort of the equivalent of the hangover you'd get from really good quality booze instead of the usual pub pints.

Heh! I'm smug because my tinnitus is minimal after 'managing' the volume with careful deployment of the earplugs.

I hate it when you've been to a gig or club and the next day you wake up, hungover, thinking "Is that an alarm of some kind?".

Well, perhaps I was too sensible. Followed Clive's advice, even brought my own earplugs which are proven to shut out kids on London buses. Didn't sustain any damage but was rather disappointed. The "wall of sound" stuff didn't work at all, no precision to it like there is on record. Some of the faster stuff was good, but any band can hammer out a song and get the crowd jumping about.

Fair to middling.

Christian Fennesz too, in his own, quieter way.

(Coincidentally, Christian Fennesz was one of the supplemental musicians on stage with Yellow Magic Orchestra, last week.)

I still have tinnitus, despite heavy-duty earplugs. My face was actually shaking during the Holocaust. And I don't think that was too long or anything either. If it was just five minutes or something, it would be a bit wanky. It's the scale of the thing which makes it massive, the sheer, transcendent crashing amount of it.

I saw Radiohead yesterday, and they were absolutely brilliant, and I spent a lot of it going "meh". MBV were a level of brilliant I don't have words for.

(also, I think I may love Bilinda Butcher)

It used to be 7 minutes, and that was plenty. It shouldn't be long enough for you to go out, do your shopping and come back. (Not that I did. But next time...)

I'm sorry that you didn't like it Tubbs. You're the first person to say meh about it that I've heard.

Me ears are almost back to their old selves now; maybe I should go on Saturday. ack. No. Can't justify the expense.

I'm mystified indeed. I think you and Leo have much finer pallets than me- indeed, perhaps the finest since Watteau. Now it seems I'm the discerning one.

If you'd said that to me in person, I'd have assumed it had something to do with P.G. Wodehouse. </ingnernce>

I must take you round the Wallace Collection sometime soon. Best collection of Watteaus in the country there. They've got some Chardins and Bouchers over from France as well.

Erasmus had a fine pallet too. Would only drink one particular sort of burgundy.

Wow! Phenomenal stuff. I sent a rather drunken text message to my friend during the holocaust saying "I've just grown 400 cocks in my chest and they're all coming continuously".

Unfortunately, I had predicitive text on and it came out as "400 coals".

No need for the backing tracks, though- what's wrong with just using a loop pedal?

Worth coming back just for this....

...not so much gig as medical experiment. Felt violated, but in a pleasant way.

Astonishing, ridiculous and gorgeous.

Believe it or not, Bruno Brooks used to put on a half-decent indie disco at Hollywood's in Romford back in the very early nineties and I remember him playing MBV and other shoegaze stuff.
