I'm not convinced it was fair though, given "executed" is used in two senses, and that Tyburn is part of the cryptic clue, and part of the definition too.

I think it would have been fair, though a bit envelope-pushy, if he had actually been executed at Tyburn...

Eth is the OE letter representing the "th" sound.

Anagram of "sweetheart" minus ETH gives "whereas".

I could probably have done the subtraction in a cleaner way, but I liked the "letter isn't delivered" pun.
