Brentford, AtléticoMadrid The perfect rightness of the actual Location: On the shoulder of the last defender

I can't remember the exact details of the shirt changes but, yes, it was possible to buy all of the differently sponsored kits. The store had a constant supply of the plain dark blue away shirt and the standard Colchonero home shirt and then had a limited number for each different film. I don't believe the home shirt ever had that large Spiderman logo though, I think it was a much more generic logo.
I think UEFA banned the away-shirt Spiderman logo though, ruling it was too big, or something equally innocuous.

It was a weird season, a whole series of Hollywood 'stars' had their photos taken with Atletico shirts and their surnames embossed on the back. It didn't seem to do the team much good though, the new founds fans seemed to disappear as quickly as Cameron Diaz did from Brentford.

Ah, found the home shirt:
Kirsten Dunst (?) modelling the simple Spider logo:

Looks like Jeremie Janot took shirt number 3 straight off Richard Virenque's back.

Love this from ua's link to Janot's kits:

"Janot wore a full Spider-Man costume complete with his own name and kit number and club sponsors for a home match against FC Istres in 2005. He took off the mask before play began."

It's the "...took off the mask.." detail. I reckon he should have kept it on.

What a great photo. The ball five miles up, the pitch markings showing the balance-throwing undulations of the terrain, sheep in the background and a fat bloke at left-back.

Would I be correct in the assumption that it's the goalkeeper that has sliced the ball up there?

Actually, the home Athletico shirt with the simple logo is great. The away one is somewhat symbolic of the victory of capitalism over Corinthian values in football

Some of the shirts on this list are amazing, sadly I couldn't find a photo but Charlton had a great supporters top back in the early 1990s a nice mix of red, white and black that all blended into one like paint running.

Worringly when I was younger I thought it looked good!!

That picture could easily be the source photo of the hardest "Spot the Ball competition" ever.

What is a "supporters top"?

Did they produce replicas of any of the sponsored shirts from that season?

I was a habituee of the Atleti club shop that season, usually browsing longingly on my way to teach some miserable 13 year old extra English, as alas I was skint. I think I eventually managed to afford a wallet and a fleece that was heavily reduced.

But what I REALLY wanted was a Spiderman or Bad Boys 2 sponsored shirt**. They DID reprod them, but in v limited no.s, and some were snapped up pronto.

**NB this in no way represents approval of Bad Boys 2 or its contents. It was cos the Castellano translation was so amusing and bizarrely repetitive: "2 Policias Rebeldes 2", which sounds like the sort of thing a waiter shouts across the counter in a noisy restaurant.

I like the Spiderman one too.

Brighton had a big centrally placed Seagull in a Batman pose on a Black away shirt recently. I could not find an image on the net though. Superheroes indeed.

The sartorial elegance of the big number 5 is open to question he obviously thinks that the real problem is the shorts.
