The positive is that Gullardo and Emillio are looking more and more comfortable with each other and generated a lot of chances last night.
I agree with IMP that firing Soehn would likely be unhelpful, at best, at this point. If we miss the playoffs and/or don't show a positive trend then maybe it's something to think about in the off season. Of course, Bruce Arena's currently unemployed sour mug looms over all of this.
Soehn was succesful early on, but the bad form didn't really just begin this year. It began at the end of last year. That suggests there might be a bigger problem than just the new personel this season. Or maybe not.
Kasper has a good enough track record to deserve a lot of slack. He didn't suddenly become stupid. It's just that a bunch of gambles (losing Gomez because we thought we'd get Veron, Zack Wells, etc) haven't gone his way all at the same time.
Seattle must buy Kasey Keller. It would be an ideal fit. He's from the Northwest having a keeper who can make some spectactular saves would generate some much needed highlight real content since, in all likelihood, they're probably not going to be an offensive juggernaut in their first year or two.
It would also be nice if we could get Brad Friedel (saw him at the airport, you know) and Tim Howard in MLS again. Keepers are the one thing the U.S. is reasonably good at producing.
AG: My money's on a ugly goalless draw, not that that means anything.
Columbus has lined up 2 friendlies in July, Independiente and West Ham. They also managed amusingly to me to miss out on Brian McBride by BMB's brother/agent not having configured his Blackberry and never getting their message. Then emailing an address that hadn't been checked for a year. True.
Barca will play NYRB in Giants Stadium, and Chivas mothership in Chicago in August.
Jean Philippe Peguero is done for the season with a wonky right knee for San Jose. Which their presigning physical MRI turned up, and they went ahead and spent the allocation anyway. "We figured he could manage it." Morons.
Tim Liewieke held a meeting this week with Gullit and Lalas, the substance being they are expected to win MLS Cup this year (at home) and be the Superclub! AEG thinks they should be. Or it will most likely mean their jobs.
@ Reed: I really doubt we will sign Keller. We have a pretty solid keeper Chris Eyelander in the current USL squad. Keller would likely take a DP slot, and almost all the pressers the FO have given so far indicate they have very high hopes for their DP slot.
Apparently the Seattle shirt deal is bringing in $4 million a season for 5 years. How big is an MLS salary cap? Is that enough to cover just about everyone but the DP?
Qwest Field, in their run of pre-MLS big time matches, is hosting Brazil vs Canada tonight. Not sure whether to pull for the concacaf amigos or the fancy you tube stars.
the sounders will have first crack at any USL players they currently own. They have announced that they don't want to sign a DP goal keeper. Also, they have proven this by already signing their first player, Sebastien LeToux, currently on the sounders. I think this is as close to promotion as we will get in the MLS.
