I thought the last series tended towards high farce a bit too readily - I've seen it written elsewhere that "cooking the dog" could be the PS equivalent of "jumping the shark" and I sympathise with that point of view - the sports centre episode also fell prey to the same tendency.
On current evidence, this time around they've kept the premises a bit more faithful to the early series. The situation is back to the two principle characters stuck with each other with no realistic means of escape.
And being from Harpenden, the mug moment I found hilarious.
