However, I am mulling over a job offer in Sao Paulo, starting next summer. It's very tempting.

Ah, so that picture I sent you is having the desired effect, then.

I'll have a look out for a Corinthians shirt. It may not be an 'official' one but it won't cost you 50 quid either.

Well, Vasco really shot themselves in the foot last night and are right back in the mire. An abysmal performance and a 4-1 hammering at Atlético MG. There's only three games left and the next one is at home to São Paulo. This is going to go right to the wire.

Did the Palmerias ultras really break Luxemburgo's arm?

Before they got tonked by Flamengo?

It seems that his elbow was dislocated after being attacked at the airport before the flight to Rio. He was wearing a sling when, before the game, he gave an on-pitch interview denouncing the Palmeiras ultras. Directors have also complained of receiving death threats.

The mood of the Manche Verde won`t have been improved by the match - an exhilarating display of counter-attacking football by Flamengo, the sort of game that, despite the medocrity of most matches here, reminds you why you fell in love with Brazilian football. Have a look at the goals here.. The fourth goal by Ibson is just superb. Leeds fans may also be interested to see another floundering performance by Roque Junior.

The stars were midfielders Ibson, with a hat-trick and Kléberson (yes, Kléberson) who was involved in everything and gave the sort of display that finally made me understand why he has a world cup winners medal. If Flamengo could have played like this more consistently they'd have walked away with the league. As it is, São Paulo and Grêmio won and, unless something very surprising happens (Vasco beating SP next week?), the title is between these two less than inspiring teams.

Ironically, before the game Flamengo fans unveiled a banner asking Luxemburgo to join them next season. By the end, it had been discreetly removed and it was Caio Junior's name that was being chanted.

Big game for Inter tonight- second leg, semi against Chivas.

Alex is away with the Brazil squad but D'Alessandro returns. Suprisingly no Brazilian club has reached the final before.

Missed the first leg of the semi but Inter were fantastic in their away leg at Boca. If they can keep those players together, I think they'll be a real force next season.

We could always try to revive this thread.

Have you ever heard Alex being interviewed? He's got the squeakiest voice I've heard since Alan Ball.

I'm non-Portuguese speaking unfortunately. I have heard him speaking though- his voice is hilarious. Warner Brothers-esqe even! There's a video of the squad in the changing rooms moments before Gre-Nal and he starts shouting and stuff.. haha

Like you say, Inter do have a decent squad but I can easily see Nilmar, Alex and possibly Guinazu being lured abroad.

In saying that, it will be interesting to see how Inter act in the transfer window as it is their centenary next year and they will be looking to celebrate it with a major title.

I'm hearing whispers that Muricy Ramalho will be there in January too.

Mixed blessings for Vasco on Thursday night, Figueirense won but it was against Nautico which keeps them within reach.

Apologies for being Vasco-centric but really don't yet know enough about the other teams to pass comment.

Chas, it's the biggest match of Vasco's season this Sunday at home to São Paulo. Both teams just have to win for very different reasons. It'll be the first time I'll have been in a sold out 'Caldeirão' and I'm already getting rather excited. São Paulo have already been complaining about lack of security at the stadium. To add further spice, Flamengo need a Vasco victory (as well as a win at Cruzeiro) to keep their faint title hopes alive.

Figuierense's win against Naútico at least means Vasco's fate is in their own hands - win the last three games and they stay up. It looks like Vasco will play 3-6-1 with Edmundo on the bench but I'd just love him to come on and score the winner. Can they do it? Well, despite being top, São Paulo are widely regarded as having benefited from a lot of luck and dodgy refereeing decisions this season. I'm not sure they'll be getting many of the latter tomorrow. On the other hand, there's no team better equipped than São Paulo for grinding out a result when they need it.

Felt desperately sorry for Vasco and their supporters - apart from a small minority calling for the return of Eurico. A battling performance but in the end the failings that have plagued them all season cost them dear. Nothing much they could have done about Jorge Wagner's superb free kick but Hugo was left in acres of space for the second. But it could have been very different if Rogério Ceni hadn't made 4 or 5 great saves, if a penalty had been awarded for the foul on Wagner Diniz, if Edmundo hadn't blasted over from 10 yards......

It looks like the game is up now and Renato Gaúcho looked positively suicidal in the press conference. Vasco need to win both their remaining games at Coritiba and at home to Vitória and hope that either Naútico or Atlético PR lose both of theirs - and these two teams meet next week.

Anyway, this was a dramatic and decisive round elsewhere in the Brasileiro. I'll try and summarise that in a bit.

So, barring a miraculous collapse, São Paulo have won it for the third time running and are now record-breaking Hexacampeão, Grêmio having been hammered by four second half goals at Vitória.

Another great game involving Flamengo but this time they were on the wrong end of a 3-2 thriller at Cruzeiro, the diffence between the teams being the excellent Ramires and a homer referee who denied Flamengo a last minute penalty and then sent off Diego Tardelli and Fabio Lúciano for protesting. So Flamengo are now outside the Libertadores places and need to rely on slip-ups by the teams above.

With reference to an earlier post by Rogin noting the absence of any Rio teams in Serie B, Duque de Caxias have just won promotion from Serie C - and they can probably look forward to playing Vasco next season.

Oh, and for Jon, Barueri confirmed their promotion to Serie A on Saturday.

On a slightly related note:
Does anybody of you guys know a site about Copa 2014? The last update on the official CBF site was about two years ago.

Great news about Barueri, sid. But guess what? My friend and his Brazilian wife (who hails from said town) have now just moved to Britain. So bang goes my plans for staying with them during the 2014 World Cup.
