These are all "California Girls" compared to the Hungarian suicide song "Gloomy Sunday", the most fantastic death song ever as it is about someone wishing to commit suicide after the death of their lover.

You have to get the Artie Shaw version without the cop-out third verse that they added on for the Billie Holliday version though

Sunday is gloomy, my hours are slumberless
Dearest the shadows I live with are numberless
Little white flowers will never awaken you
Not where the black coach of sorrow has taken you
Angels have no thought of ever returning you
Would they be angry if I thought of joining you?

Gloomy Sunday

Gloomy is Sunday, with shadows I spend it all
My heart and I have decided to end it all
Soon there'll be candles and prayers that are sad I know
Let them not weep let them know that I'm glad to go
Death is no dream for in death I'm caressing you
With the last breath of my soul I'll be blessing you

Gloomy Sunday

Memorials like Rock 'n' Roll Heaven or Abraham, Martin & John are a slightly different category aren't they? Or it seems like they should be, if not then Eddie Cochrane's Three Stars and even American Pie should be included.

Another good corpse song is Richard & Linda Thompson's Did She Jump or was She Pushed?

"Gloomy Sunday" was always going to win this thread, really.

Well, that and the legendary "I Want My Baby Back" by Jimmy Cross...

"I Come And Stand At Every Door" by This Mortal Coil

Is the rule for this game that the words 'death' and 'dead' aren't allowed to be used in the title or that would be too crass?

Someone Drowned in My Pool - Wiseblood

The 12" version being the definitive version of this superb Foetus spin off project.

I suspect there are quite a few death songs by Jim, but this is easily one of my favourite songs by the man, if not of all time actually.

Well, someone's got to administer the sentimental antidote to all the gore on offer elsewhere, haven't they? <smileywinkything>

I'm surprised that no-one has yet mentioned...

'Frankie Teardrop' by Suicide

Mind you, I pretty much am listing the tracks I used on my 'Halloween' mix for the ill-fated OTF CD club.

I've always assumed Jimmy's final journey in "Sally Maclennan" was, you know, his Final Journey. But perhaps not.
