The mighty Wimbledon, of course. AFC Wimbledon, to give us our full current name. Ryman League Premier Division. And "they" are East Thurrock united. And we were at home. It was horrible.

(By the way, "of course" doesn't really mean "of course", it's one of those placeholder things, I think. Or maybe it's ironical. I'm not sure.)

Ah, sorry to hear that. (about the loss that is, not that you support AFCW)

But anyway, AFCW's misfortunes aside, I am sure that the statistics demonstrate that reducing a team to 10 men has a very adverse impact on that team's ability to win a given match. There are three basic levels of punishment in soccer: a foul; a foul + a yellow card; a foul + a red card. This is like punishing speeding with: a fine; a fine and points; a fine, points, and life in prison. The third level is completely out of balance with the other two.

But the beauty of winning with ten men makes it worth it.

Like saving a penalty.

SS, were you at the game? Scotian and I were there. I hope this doesn't mean we failed to communicate again. I ask because as far as I could tell, the game wasn't televised.

It's always nice to see a lot of goals, but it did seem to be more a function of the massive amount of space TFC was providing than anything brilliant about DC. But DC's offense seemed to get better as the game went on. I think there's potential there, but they need to work on communication.

Are you happy now, damn you?

I see Kevin Harmse has got his TFC career off to a brilliant start.

This is going to be one long fucking season.

Edit: oh cool, you can now see when name changes occur on a thread.

Reed: I am back in Chicago, so no I did not attend the game. I plunked down the $20 so I can watch MLS matches online.

Antonio: cheer up, man. We're only two games in, and anyway, Robert looked dangerous.

You are very kind, SS. But I watch far too much TFC to hold any kind of optimism.

Good points: Carver returned Sutton and Dichio to their rightful spots in the starting lineup.

Bad points: Almost everything else. What the fuck are we paying Robinson $300K a year for, anyway?

I'm shocked, shocked, that Harmse got a red card. I'm really glad the Galaxy dumped him.

It doesn't look like I'm going to make a game this year, sadly. Skint, basically. Maybe next season.

That sucks, TonTon - I was looking forward to a visit. If you aren't campaigning Tuesday the 15th, will you let me buy you a beer (I'm in London and wish to drink with OTFers)?

SocScrim - right now I'm watching a rebroadcast of a 2007 CAF match between Al Ahly and an unknown opponent in blue. More generally, I am doing an evaluation of a new University Prepatory Program and marvelling at what a weird place Saudi is.

Seems so. Seattle Sounders FC. Seems like a compromise between the fans, and the league, who wanted a "traditional" name ("uh...something FC!").
