Glad to see the fans prevailed.

That's not a bad badge, although the space needle or whatever it's called is a bit cliche. Doesn't Seattle have any better landmarks than that?

I'd have gone with darker green and blue, but I guess the color scheme matches the original NASL club, which is cool. I see that in addition to "Sounder Blue" and "Rave Green," they're adding "Cascade Shale" (Pantone 433C), which looks to me like black or a very, very dark blue.

Seems too close to Toronto's badge for me.

The only other Seattle landmark I can think of is that market where they throw the fish to put on a show for the tourists.

My friend from Portland (well, actually Boring, OR) likes to complain about the Space Needle, in particular how the Space Needle is always shown in photographs and on TV:

He says those views are misleading, because the needle is dwarfed by other buildings, and that Seattle's landmark doesn't stand out all that much. That might all be Portland-Seattle animosity, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Those sort of tower things seem like a throwback to the 1970s when people thought that by now we'd all be living like the Jetsons and decided to build a tower as a tourist trap.

I agree that a leaping salmon would be a better logo.

Something like this perhaps. or maybe this

or maybe...

A monochromed profile of Frasier Crane would be quite appropriate I feel.

The letters on that Starbuck logo remind me of the bowling alley in Bracknell where a couple of the letters now fail to light up. A drive around one of the many, many roundabouts now takes you past the "HOLLYWOO OWL".

San Jose Earthquakes. Seattle Sounders. Vancouver Whitecaps.

This is why I want the rotten, yellow-bellied lowlive Heathers of PigSucker.cum to burn in hell.

Without history, teams are nothing. I have every right to want the Cosmos back.

So was there ever any resolution of the supposed copyright issue with the Sounders name?

Matej - I'm 50-50 for the Pachuca game due to wife working late and kids' soccer practice. I'll be keeping Reed posted if I can wangle out of my duties.

goldstone, my guess is that the ownership group thinks it has sufficient intellectual property protection given the addition of the "FC" (which I bet they will make sure is on all official tat) and the new badge. I'm sure that they got more detailed IP advice after the original PR debacle.

Wow, I think most of us are very happy that Sounders FC is the name. The FC is a compromise with all the big wigs trying to make an international name, Sounders obviously being the fan favorite name, even on write-in votes.

I like the needle personally, and from many of the nicer view points in the city, it is in fact quite prominent. Having moved up here from Tacoma to go to school, I enjoy the needle's sort of majestic look, which fits what I think the club has in mind. They are trying to create an international name, and hats off to em for trying.

There are some press release videos out with a QA at the end. Wish someone had have pointed out how the logo looks a bit hilarious, but oh well, sort of J-League-ish I suppose.

Over 14,000 season ticket deposits amazes me too. We haven't even signed Henry and Ronaldinho yet :).

Arfon Griffiths and Mike England ... not to mention Peter Ward ... all played for Sounders.

Hmmmmm, this could be my Road to MLS Damascus.

Four in four and a half seasons in the NASL (according to here.

He was widely thought of as the best centreback in the league throughout that period.

Congrats to the Sounders. I kind of like the badge. It could be sooo much worse.

DC folk - sadly, it looks like because of work committments, I won't be able to get into town for the game. Hopefully you'll be able to see continued improvement and understanding between Gallardo and the rest of the team.
