Laurent Robert? Isn't he about 37 now? Watch--he'll score more free-kick goals than David Beckham.

I have to admit that I did not know that Claudio Lopez had signed for KC. That's quite a signing.

I'm not sure he knew much about that goal he scored, mind, but still...

ffs.

long, insightful thread lost in a moment of madness.

The gist of it was Montreal would be a great choice for a MLS team if only for the rivalry with Toronto, and that there was an interview on the FAN590 with George Gillette where he reveals the nature of his relationshp with Tom Hicks and his involvement in the Montreal MLS bid.

Here's the link to the interview :
http://qml.quiettouch.com/files/radio/fan590/hotaudio/georgegillett-pt-20080327.mp3

left-click to listen (takes a while to load).
right-click to save.

There was some other stuff I was going to say as well, but instead of trying to remember it I'm just going to go get another beer from the fridge.

[edit] oh, here we go... something about the TFC academy team playing in the CSL : http://onsoccer.ca/?id=5016

On Saturday morning I cleaned out the basement and chucked a load of stuff, including a 35-dollar gazebo I occasionally used to shelter the Bethesda Over 35s at pitchside from the unforgiving summer sun, but which was too much of a pain to erect and dismantle. So I left it out at the front of the house with the other junk.

That night I turned on the TV and the Kansas City Wizards had only gone and nicked it and resurrected it as their new main stand. "Look," I said to the missus. "DC United are playing live at a picnic."

That TFC 'goal' picture is deceptive, by the way. Depends on how high the ball is off the ground. On TV it definitely didn't look over.

Pay no attention to anything you hear about TFC signings until they actually walk on the field in our shirt. Over the winter we either trialled or were linked with Savo Milosevic, Kiki Musampa, Tony Vairelles, Johnnier Montano, Joao Pinto, Stefano Fiore, Darren Huckerby, Martin Brittan, Ross Wallace, Liam Miller, Jarrod Smith, and three other Colombians whose names escape me at the moment. None of them are currently with the squad.

Personally, I think Mo has developed a serious case of attention deficit disorder. It's the best explanation I can think of for our current recruitment "strategy".

I think Mo has a long term case of hasn't-a-fucking-clue-how-to-manage-a-team disorder. Your team's a basket-case and you're going to get mauled again, and you haven't a chance of getting out of it until you ditch the Carver/Johnston ticket and scrub at least two-thirds of the squad. Can't wait to hear Don Garbage praise the new model franchise when 20,000 fans are booing their own team.

Johnnier Montano - whatever happened to him? He had the world at his feet when he was 16 and never really followed through.

That's started already. About the time the second goal went in on Staurday, the heckles began for Mo who - despite ostensibly having been kicked upstairs - was hanging out on the touchline for the second half.

It was never a penalty - Cummings gets up and tries to play on and is as astounded as anyone when he sees the ref pointing to the spot!

O'Brien's tackle was awful though - in slo-mo it looked even worse. Almost as if he was still pissed off about being brought down by Xavier and wanted retribution

Just call him Hu-gone Sanchez.

Jorge, re your Footie Fox query, real Chivas or the plastic version that play in MLS? In either case, I think it is just you. Try updating to the latest version or playing around with the settings in "Options/Leagues/" or "Options/Language Profile"

Great stuff.

I (don't know why, but I) was reading something on MLS Underground about KC's temporary home and what opposition 'keepers would be in for standing at the 'Cauldron' end. I get that they have sold more tickets now that they are playing in a more intimate setting, but jeebus, has anyone seen one of their home games on the telly ? I swear they only got 400+ for their home opener last year.

There are some amusing exchanges between KC and Crew supporters in the comments section.

I've just seen the highlights from the LA game. Xavier was fairly horrendous. He might as well have been sitting on the bench for that one where the player strolls past him to score.
