Is this some sort of political equivalent of The Producers?

Is it possible that Brown genuinely doesn't realise that people used to vote for New Labour despite the presence of Peter Mandelson (i.e. the public initially felt so generously-disposed towards the whole Nu-Lab project that they were even willing to tolerate having that cunt on board), rather than because of him? If so, it's the biggest miscalculation since that alien ship in The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy that gets swallowed by a cat, or whatever.

What the FUCK has this smarmy lying cunt EVER done in "business or enterprise" apart from commit mortgage fraud?

Ah, now I see it. He's actually the archetypal "British small businessman", isn't he. I bet the wanker's never paid a penny in income tax in his life, either, a bit like Marks and Spencer's.

Despite my loathing of all the present Labour Party stands for I am still almost trembling with anger and dismay about this. What the fucking fuck does that useless, bloated bag of offal think he's doing giving that simpering fucking crook any job of greater responsibility than shovelling shit in the London zoo hippo pens.

Fucking labour cunts. They richly deserve the fucking kicking they're going to get at the next election.

This doesn't make much sense for either Mandelson or the gov'mint. Labour were obviously well shot of that creepy liability, but I also thought Mandelson looked a lot happier forcing grotesquely inequitable trade agreements on some of the poorest countries on Earth in his capacity as EU trade comnissioner.

It was an entire fleet of alien ships.

I've added nothing to this thread, apologies.

True.

But let's not get too enthusiastic about the utter cunts who will be replacing them.

I'm not remotely enthusiastic about them. I feel like a Victorian headmaster, with the labour party in the role of unruly child. "This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you..."

The trouble - or ratather, one of the many troubles with this situation - is that the punishment is unlikely to have any corrective effect. I reckon a whopping defeat at the next election will convince the nu-labs that they need to be even more like the tories, not less so.

But the nu-tories are trying ever so hard to be like the old nu-labs. The ones that people used to like.

This is all very confusing.

What does the "business secretary" do? Is it a bit liking being the assistant to the travelling secretary.

This really baught my eye.

QUOTE:
In other moves, John Hutton replaces Des Browne as defence secretary.

How is that not a headline story? Isn't defense secretary one of the most important jobs in the government given that, you know, Britain is fighting in at least two unpopular wars that I know of?

Des Browne sounds like the name of a left back for some unremarkable mid-table club.

It's supposed to be an important job, but really I can't see that it matters much. Old sexface is in charge and what can a minister of "defence" do?

Matey-boy was planning to leave anyway, he's standing down as an MP isn't he? So it's not like he's been sacked.
