They ride around on bicycles and mince around in clogs.' (John Dowie c1979)

And that fucking Van Nistelrooy is a really effective goalscorer for such an ugly bastard

Instead I'm going to have to stay here and suffer the interminable wave of false, Orange idiots, pretending they all suddenly love football, cheering on their band of useless, cheating, spoilt, mercenary bastards.

Mercedes Actros' sentiments from the ticket thread clearly belong here, in tone as well as content!

I'll be rooting for Holland (as well as Spain) as usual, and I'm prepared to be disappointed as usual.

I shall be watching Ruud van Nistelrooy with an aching and a longing in my heart.

Inca, we have that in common. I will be rooting for Holland (and indeed IN Holland) but my 'sensible head' will be saying 'for fuck sake, its time for Spain'

good things about Netherlands:

decent food (as long as its not in a Dutch eetcafe)
they are quite tall
they do a nice line in speed skating
their fans are almost as mental as ours (insert any country here who doesnt have a uniform or a ginger wig)
they make exceedingly good cakes
they have coffee in which a spoon will be erect
they hate cyclists, yet all do it
they have the most beautiful language in the world, bar none (when you get your epiglotis around it)
they are wonderful
they are bastards

I will, as always, be supporting the Dutch, prepared to get my heart broken when they go out on penalty kicks. With the historical blindness only available to non-Dutch supporters of Holland, my second team may very well be Germany.

Given the classic orange shirts and white shorts, I think the (relatively new?) blue socks are very fetching.

Their change shirts look like pyjama tops, though. The sort of pyjamas that George Jetson would wear, to be more accurate.

The stadium where Oranje first wore Oranje coloured shirts was in Doncaster, it was demolished a couple of years ago.

They lost 12 - 0 to England that day. A defeat that almost destroyed the KNVB.

Add me to the list of "oranje" wannabes.

Taking a slightly longer view of Netherlands history though, I'm not sure so many of you should have Spain as your seconds.
