I'm more or less with Horse on this. It's an interesting meditation on keeping hope alive in the face of hopelessness, of a father's duty to a son and how children, simply by being alive, are inexhaustible sources of hope. But apart from that, it's a riff on Mad Max. Which is part of the problem - post-nuclear apocalypse has been done quite a few times which means the mind fills in the blanks in a way that isn't the case with, to use Toro's example, Beckett.

A good book, certainly, but not "the best of the last 50 years" (which I believe someone said on the old board).

What more would you want from a book?

I wonder which was written first, "The Road" or the remake of "War of the Worlds"?
