The dog coming out from under the couch and the X were my favorite bits.

All the best Tom & Jerrys were produced by Fred Quimby as well. He was a genius.

There were stories out a while back that the Liberal, Politically Correct brigade wanted to ban cartoons like that because they teach children that "Violence is good and funny". Hopefully that day will never come. I am sure even small children can tell the difference between real life and a cartoon cat.

Fred Quimby was decidedly not a genius. Check the 1988 documentary on Tex Avery. He came to his position by slackness and default and never understood the cartoons made in what amounted to his "name".

Fair enough, but the ones that do bear his name, were the best. Even if they were not down to him.

That was awesome. The horse was the best bit.

True enough, h of h. "Produced by Fred Quimby" is generally a hallmark of a great cartoon.

Whether Avery or Quimby fight for credit, it makes no difference. Pure genius on both their parts no matter how you slice it.

For reasons which escape me, I suddenly got to think of this:

before I look, I will say that the funniest cartoon, ever, is the first 5 minutes of 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'

Ok then, here goes

This would get my vote.

Someone once called Daffy Duck modern America's God of Frustration. This cartoon sums up the frustration perfectly.

That's brilliant, too. I kinda get the feeling that the artists were working a night shift and had a block ... and that's what came out.

What a way to run a railroad, indeed.

Apart from the fact a black cat crossing your path is good luck, of course...

And another thing.

It only counts if the cat is completely black.

That one's got a white muzzle.

There was a great Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam cartoon involving Sam repeatedly storming a castle with an elephant and Bugs defending it. I can't find it online, but a search reveals it was called Prince Violent (and later, Prince Varmint).
