I finally get the forum member's name.

Great, great film. A little difficult to follow at times (in terms of who has allegiances to whom, and who is double-crossing whom), but that's kind of the point.

Byrne's broody film-noir existentialism is spot-on, and Turturro's performance is incredible.

I think I've completed the Coens set now. Oh, apart from the last two or three. But I've seen all the classics. Hurrah.

If you want me for any other decade-and-a-half-late film reviews, just ring.

It's very good in combination with the OTFer's real life name too, and while that is clearly quite an annoying thing to pipe up with, he is Brighton based and I believe does attend the occasional a-thon.

Anyway, wonderful film, I watched it myself on Saturday. Rewards repeat viewings too, as anything that just looksthat great is bound to.

Spinal Tap = Stumpy Pepys.

He's probably mentioned it on the old site, so I'm betting I'm a little behind the times.

If not, yeeeessss!

Miller's Crossing is my It's a Wonderful Life or Wizard of Oz; I watch it every Christmas and never tire of it. Possibly my favourite film ever.

Brilliant, brilliant film. "What's the rumpus" is one of the few movie phrases that permanently worked their way into my vocabulary. (Another that comes to mind is the word "boyo" from L.A. Confidential...)

A great line and a great delivery.

I guess this thread is a good point to ease myself back into the board.

Leave me the movies with a great surface. Drop a reflection into the city's puddles and you have me.

Miller's Crossing does that in the grand manner. It also perfectly recreates the movies they don't make anymore whilst relishing a cruel new world. How does it do all those things?

"If I knew we were going to cast our feelings into words I would have memorised the Song of Solomon."

They have a lot of nerve those Coen Brothers.
