SOUTHBANK CENTRE

MARK E SMITH
WEDNESDAY 16 JULY

Mark E Smith joins his biographer Austin Collings to discuss his extraordinary life as front man of The Fall. His book Renegade is the first time he has opened up in a full biography. Hear the honest account of a legendary band, by one of rock's true iconoclasts. 'Reams of stuff have been written about me in the past, but never in my own words: this is the proper one' (Mark E Smith).

Tickets: £9

In the sense that you're likely going to this, or in the sense that you realize you really should be, but, in fact, won't be?

I'd sort of like to go, but I was there 14 years ago when he had a "discussion" with whatshisface Bracewell at the ICA, and if it's anything like that then sod it. MES guzzling bottles of beer and being wilfully monosyllabic while Bracewell floundered and the audience chipped in with questions of the calibre of "do you like Sebadoh?" It was amusing, but you don't need to witness something like that twice.

Then again, if I can blag it, I might look into it. Not paying nine bloody quid though. Champagne, hip hip hooray / thank you folks for coming today / how much was the price on the door? / I'm sure it's worth a whole... lot... more........
