*NEXT STAY BEAUTIFUL: SATURDAY 5th APRIL*
Listen up, beautiful dance whores. The next Stay Beautiful is on SATURDAY 5th APRIL, and for the first time in perhaps too long, THERE IS NO THEME. Instead, it'll be 'just' a regular Stay Beautiful, which - as you already know - means fantastic music from your resident (and guest) DJs, an excellent live band, a Watering Can Song, a gorgeous crowd dressed to kill, and a whole lotta drunken fun. Now read on for details...

*SHE'S GOT SAVOIR FAIRE, YEAH YEAH*
HELOISE AND THE SAVOIR FAIRE ( http://www.heloisemusic.com / http://www.myspace.com/heloiseandthesavoirfaire ) are one of the hottest things in New York City right now. And if you don't wanna take out word for it, how about DEBBIE HARRY, who has named them as her favourite new band (and even provides guest vocals on two of their tracks), or Hobbit-boy himself, ELIJAH WOOD, who has signed them to his new Simian Records label. Described by Disorder Magazine as a "great big flying disco ball swerving through a relentless shower of pink glitter and synth-lasers", and by themselves as "an electrified collision of late-70s disco-infused dance punk and 80s synth-pop", they could barely be more Stay Beautiful-friendly if they tried. (For another, probably hopelessly inadequate comparison, think Fischerspooner meets Blondie meets Minty meets Pet Shop Boys.) They come to us fresh from the SXSW festival, and will also be appearing on THE FRIDAY NIGHT PROJECT while they're here. (Sadly it's the Friday after SB, not before, but if you wanna get an idea of what to expect, check out their previous appearance on THE GRAHAM NORTON SHOW: http://youtube.com/watch?v=pDSkH3JsLlA ). This rare UK performance is gonna be one of those Stay Beautiful shows which is talked about for a long time afterwards, and you'd be a fool to miss it...

*GUEST DJ: CHARLOTTE HATHERLEY!*
Our guest DJ this month is none other than CHARLOTTE HATHERLEY ( http://www.charlottehatherley.com / http://www.myspace.com/charlottehatherleyofficial ). Everyone knows who Charlotte Hatherley is, right? Drafted into ASH in 1997 as an auxiliary guitarist (and rapidly becoming an indie pin-up goddess by accident), she spent a decade with the Northern Irish band before embarking on a solo career. She's released two acclaimed albums under her own name, and she's currently in the middle of a residency at Bar Academy in Islington, playing the last Sunday of the month from now until June. If you haven't heard any of her solo material, shame on you: check out the power-pop classic "Kim Wilde" on her Myspace for starters. We've seen Charlotte DJing before, and she rocks like a bastardo. That's all you need to know. Oh, and she also happens to have been playing in BRYAN FERRY's live band lately, which in a roundabout way brings us onto this month's prize giveaway...

*WIN EXCLUSIVE ‘FLASHBACKS OF A FOOL’ FILM PRIZES!*
Starring Daniel "James Bond" Craig and Keeley "Ashes To Ashes" Hawes among others, FLASHBACKS OF A FOOL ( http://www.flashbacksmovie.co.uk ) opens in British cinemas on 18th April. Focusing on a washed-up Hollywood star looking back on the days of his youth in 1970's England, it moves to the beat of a fantastic soundtrack featuring some prime ROXY MUSIC as well as the likes of David Bowie, Scott Walker etc. To celebrate the film's release, we're going to be giving away some exclusive Flashbacks movie memorabilia and all you need to do to win is answer a simple Roxy-related question... so listen out on the night!

*CHEAP BOOZE, FREE BOOZE!*
Drinks at the Purple Turtle are, you'll be glad to hear, served at pretty reasonable, pubby prices anyway (certainly compared to one or two of our previous homes). And, to set you on your way towards alcoholic oblivion, the Purple Turtle serves a special JESUS JUICE cocktail exclusively at Stay Beautiful - a delicious and potentially head-fvcking blend of vodka, Archers, cranberry, lemonade and fresh lime - at £8.50 per pitcher ALL NIGHT (a wide variety of other cocktails will be served at a tenner per pitcher). Furthermore, as aficionados of messy vodka-guzzling will be aware, Stay Beautiful has a somewhat notorious tradition called the WATERING CAN SONG...

*OH, YOUR HAIR IS BEAUTIFUL!*
...and this month's Watering Can Song is "ATOMIC" by BLONDIE. So, when you hear that pulsating disco beat and that heroic guitar riff, you know it's time to get wet!

*ADMISSION PRICES*
Regular admission is £7 (i.e. if you can‘t even be bothered to pick up a flyer, bring some sort of concessionary ID, or wear an SB badge). However, for very early birds, it's just £4 BEFORE 9.30pm, and if you come with a flyer (printable version: http://www.staybeautifulclub.co.uk/eflyer.htm), NUS/DSS card or a Stay Beautiful badge, it's just £5 ALL NIGHT!

*WHERE IT'S AT*
Stay Beautiful's current home is the PURPLE TURTLE ( http://www.purpleturtlebar.com ), 61-65 Crowndale Rd NW1 (for directions and transport information, see our 'Info' page: http://www.staybeautifulclub.co.uk/info.htm ), just 1 minute's walk from Mornington Crescent tube (and about 5 minutes from Camden Town.

*OPENING HOURS AND AGE POLICY*
Stay Beautiful opens at 9.00pm and closes at 3.00am. Please note that The Purple Turtle is an over-18s venue and ID MAY BE REQUIRED, so if you think you may look underage, please bring one of the following: an NUS card (with a credit card), a passport, or a driving license.

Not sure why, but maybe it's case-sensitive and doesn't like nested tags.

Ah, I see. The tags are case-sensitive, and you have to close them in the right order. You had (b)(i)(/b)(/i) instead of (b)(i)(/i)(/b). I think.

Event: Stay Beautiful
Venue: Purple Turtle, Camden Town
Date: Saturday 5th April, 2008

It seems ages ago now (sorry, had a crazy-busy fortnight), but here’s how it went down a the last Stay Beautiful. No musical theme, no costumes, no flowers or confetti, just another fantastic SB night, basically.

Playing their first-ever UK show, New York’s wonderful art-disco ensemble Heloise & The Savoir Faire showed exactly why they’re both Debbie Harry and Elijah Wood’s favourite new band, with their floor-shaking, ass-flashing thing (imagine Frankie Goes To Hollywood fronted by a young Stevie Nicks, or The Gossip running riot in Fischerspooner‘s wardrobe). In a few months’ time, you’ll be looking back and thinking “I can’t believe I saw them at Stay Beautiful”. One of those shows. Absolutely brilliant.

Guest DJ Charlotte Hatherley out of Ash (and out of, well, Charlotte Hatherley) kept everyone happy with an hour of guilt-free indie hits, I embarrassed the heroic Gaz Cloud by announcing his charidee run at the London Marathon the following week, birthdays were celebrated, prizes were won (rare Japanese copies of the classic Roxy Music albums, actual Daniel ‘James Bond’ Craig autographs on the Flashbacks Of A Fool poster!), drinks were necked, shapes were pulled, fun was had. Oh, and was that really H out of Steps getting down on the dance floor? Eye witness reports are inconclusive. You tell us…

There’s one last very important thing to say. We didn’t know it at the time, but after many years of ruling the door with a rod - well, a fairy wand - of steel, and bestowing gifts upon you all like a more slender and sparkly Santa Claus, this was your glamorous hostess Davina Silver’s final Stay Beautiful (as one of the team, at least - we’re looking forward to seeing her back in the club having fun and dancing!). Due to her work commitments in the exciting world of music management, she’s reluctantly having to leave her SB days behind. It’s no exaggeration that without Davina’s boundless enthusiasm and inspired ideas, there probably wouldn’t even be a Stay Beautiful any more, and - whether working for us or not - she‘ll always be part of the club. A massive THANK YOU to the inimitable DiDi!

Which with no further ado, apart from reminding you that you can see photos at http://www.staybeautifulclub.co.uk/gallery.htm (thanks again to Mark Cooper and Alexandra Paynter for additional digital photography) and video clips at http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=staybeautifulclub, and that the next Stay Beautiful is on Saturday 3rd May (starring ELECTROVAMP live!), brings us to what we actually played:

*SATURDAY 3rd MAY: ELECTROVAMP LIVE ONSTAGE!*
Attention, beautiful people! The next Stay Beautiful is on SATURDAY 3rd MAY, and our live guests are the incredible ELECTROVAMP ( http://www.myspace.com/electrovampofficial ), the Caerphilly girl duo who are responsible for the first great pop single of 2008, "I DON'T LIKE THE VIBE IN THE V.I.P.". Tammy (18) and Kally (17) are sisters, and come over like a Welsh reincarnation of Shampoo. If you haven't heard that insanely catchy debut hit yet, you clearly haven't been to Stay Beautiful in a while, cos we can't get enough of it. Check out the video on their Myspace (which degenerated into a Skins-style houseparty causing ten grand's worth of damage), but be warned: the song will be stuck in your head for weeks. This Stay Beautiful appearance, timed to launch the follow-up single "The Drinks Taste Better When They're Free", will be their first-ever London show. They'll make you scream like you ain't done it in ages...

*WIN “THAT‘S NOT MY NAME“ BY THE TING TINGS!*
Our prize giveaway this month is the reissue of the awesome (and lethally catchy) “THAT’S NOT MY NAME” by THE TING TINGS ( http://www.thetingtings.com / http://www.myspace.com/thetingtings ). The single, which Stay Beautiful has been playing every month, is getting a second shot at the charts on MAY 12th, and you can win one of TEN COPIES by answering a very simple question at the club. Go on, have a wild guess in advance what the question’s likely to be. We bet you can work it out.

*GOT YOUR MOTHER IN A WHIRL…*
...and this month's Watering Can Song is "REBEL REBEL" by DAVID BOWIE. So, when you hear that instantly-recognisable riff, you know it's time to get wet!

Event: Stay Beautiful
Venue: Purple Turtle, Camden Town
Date: Saturday 3rd May, 2008

New territory for Stay Beautiful: an out-and-out pop act. Pure pop music has always been a smallish element of the SB playlist, sprinkled into the mix to add flavour, but this is the first time we’ve had a proper pop group onstage. Teenagers Tammy and Kally, the sisters from Caerphilly who sound like South Wales’ answer to Shampoo, delivered a sweet short sharp shock of a hit-and-run PA, consisting of their awesome debut single “I Don’t Like The Vibe In The VIP” and the follow-up “The Drinks Taste Better When They’re Free”, which is stuck in our heads already and is gonna be absolutely everywhere by late summer (not least because it’s been confirmed as the title tune for the forthcoming Simon Pegg/Jeff Bridges movie How To Lose Friends And Alienate People). And mentioned their Myspace maybe one time too many, but made up for it by telling the crowd “You’re looking very sexy… We love your outfits, by the way. Maybe we should wear something like that.” Flattery will get them everywhere.

It was another great night all round, with the usual variety of bizarre extras that makes Stay Beautiful what it is. For example, the uncannily accurate (and surprisingly tasty) ‘Cakey Wire’ brought along by regulars Sam & Amanda, for reasons too complicated to explain. I went a bit prop-crazy in the DJ booth, brandishing my brolly to the Manics’ Rihanna cover, and dancing with a stuffed tiger to Mud. Had to be done.

Big thanks to everyone who chose to spend their birthdays with us, everyone who put up with my depressed and angry rants about Boris Johnson, and everyone who was probably meant to be locked away revising for exams but decided “Nah, f#ck it”…

Which with no further ado, apart from reminding you that you can see photos at http://www.staybeautifulclub.co.uk/gallery.htm (thanks again to Mark Cooper for additional digital photography) and video clips at http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=staybeautifulclub, and that the next Stay Beautiful is on Saturday 7th June (starring GLAM CHOPS live and ACEY MURDERDOLL as guest DJ!), brings us to what we actually played:
