Shit, sorry, didn't see this thread first time around. Anyway...
I love the single "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You" (it's like a male take on Kelis' "Milkshake"), I love the Twelves remix even more (it's very Chromeo/Daft Punk), and I love "Hurricane Jane" too.
The guy's voice reminds me of a young Robert Smith, and they're very 80s all round, like a discoed-up Smiths (so, Pet Shop Boys, then?) with a bit of The Only Ones thrown in.
I'm probably gonna play the single remix at Stay Beautiful tomorrow, and I'm off to catch their instore gig at HMV Oxford St on Monday.
An update, anyway: my opinion of them has gone slightly down because when I saw them live there were loads of pissed-up sixth-formers there who seemed more interested in taking photos of each other with their phones than actually, you know, watching the band.
Not that that's the group's fault, but it's tainted my opinion of them a bit.
Chances are that Monday's instore will be even more like that. I'll try and blank it out. (They're playing a proper gig at Koko later the same night, but I can't go cos I'm off to see Bert Andersuede.)
Saw them live when they played the Oxford Zodiac (refuse to call it by its new name), and it was a damned good gig. They were a bit different from what I'd expected, more disco less 'indie', but it was no bad thing.
It's part of the Academy chain, though the smaller room (which is now the upstairs one and where I saw the Black Kids) is actually still called the Zodiac.
No, you're wrong, he sounds exactly like Robert Smith, and it must be deliberate. I went to see them on Thursday and enjoyed them enough to buy a Partie Traumatic t-shirt. I'll be making sure to see them at Latitude next weekend too.
They don't sound anything like The Go! Team, really. Different kettle of fish.
