Christ, what a week this has been...
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/2979215/Norman-Whitfield.html

I don't use the word "genius" lightly but Grapevine, Papa Was A Rollin' Stone, Wishing On A Star etc. etc. etc. - it has to apply to him. RIP big man.

The "etc. etc. etc." bit can't be overstated can it?

I mean, "War", "I Can't Get Next To You" and "I Could Never Love Another" as well for starters.

Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me) (1971).Christ, what a heartfelt plea that record was to all the girls I used to adore from a distance.

Shit, I missed this until I checked the website for a local soul night and it said 'Norman Whitfield RIP'.

There are only a handful of people alive who can beat this for a discography. And most of them were on his label.

What everybody else said plus 'Wishin On A Star', 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore' (for the mangling of which Jimmy Nail and Madonna should be condemned to sing it to each other at the tops of their voices for all eternity).

RIP
