For the purposes of a music thread, I found myself looking up David Van Day, having always assumed the burger-flipping tosspot had been christened Bert Gubbins or suchlike. But no, that's the name on his birth certificate.

Ditto Frank Zappa. And I got in a ridiculous argument with a work colleague who absoutely refused to believe that Madonna was actually called, erm ... Madonna.

If Julia Bonk had been one of Russ Meyer's starlets rather than a Left member of the Saxony parliament, I'd have put money on her name being made up.
