Big news so far:

Final Fantasy XIII is multi-platform, which is a big coup for Microsoft, but I doubt it's going to shift much hardware. It might help set them up for next generation, though, by helping to break the mindlock Playstation has over certain gaming brands (eg GTA, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry) and the Japanese market in general.

Dylan in Rock Band 2: pure awesome.

The Xbox interface overhaul looks pretty good, although I don't give a damn about avatars.

New Portal content on XBLA.

Pay Nintendo money to make your Wii remote work like it was supposed to!

Mirror's Edge looks amazing

So does Fallout 3.

I haven't heard a peep about GTA4 since the immediate hubbub around its launch. Since I'm still umming and ahhing over buying something specifically for playing it (it is the only game I have any interest in playing) is it any good, or is it the slight disappointment that I infer from the post-launch silence (I remember the threads about San Andreas were numerous and went on for years).

We had a pretty extensive thread on it. It's awesome, but there are senses in which it's underwhelming. They've definitely focused on the story/character side, so there's less of a sense of expansive freedom than there was in San Andreas or Vice City. And the tone is much less cartoonish, so if you were a fan of that aspect, you might be disappointed. Personally I've always been more of a story/missions guy in GTA anyway, so I love it. The world is far more immersive than previous GTAs - loads of little touches that all add up, and the city looks amazing.

N'Gai Croal and Stephen Totilo had a really good conversation about this subject over at N'Gai's Level Up blog. You should check it out, as they flesh out the issues far more intelligently and insightfully than I ever could.

News from Nintendo:

Mario and Zelda teams working on Wii titles

GTA: China Town Wars for DS!

Wii Sports Resort will use the fixed Wiimote

Animal Crossing: meh

Some snowboarding game using the balance board.

A bit crap really, but then I wasn't expecting much.

Sony just used Little Big Planet to do their business "slide show". Pretty cool.

Well, Sony's presentation was by far the most impressive, but even that wasn't mindblowing.

Little Big Planet just keeps looking cooler and cooler. Check out the footage. There's no other game I looking forward to more. Between this game and Spore, it looks like 2008 is really going to be a pivotal year for gaming.

Resistance 2 looks good, but there wasn't much gameplay footage. There was for Resistance PSP, which looked very nice.

Lots of video content for Americans, but nothing for us Euroweenies.

Flower (the follow up to Flow) looks very pretty indeed, but I've still no idea what the gameplay involves. Pixeljunk Eden was shown, but I know about all there is to know about that already. I can't wait for it.

God of War 3 was announced, but no footage

More Patapon! Sweet.
