Someone left a fly in the lay-by near Ropsley Woods for a few days. We assumed it had been nicked, and then dumped. A few days after that, we drove back past it, and someone had taken the wings, the legs, one of the eyes, and those creepy mandible things that they puke on to your food out of.

OR

There's a little bar up near Wagamama on Fleet Street, it doesn't look like much, and to be fair, it isn't. There's two burly bouncers on the door, who try and stop everyone from entering. It's a wonder that they make any money at all. But when you do finally get in, they sell cheap booze, and dozens of flies in cheap chiffon sarongs get naked for you if you stick a pound in a pint glass.

When doing DIY reno work on particularly old houses, one often comes across a good condition, original fly which landed in the first coat of paint, varnish, or 'whitewash'. Subsequent coats of paint - often as many as 20 in a very old home - will have rendered the fly as a small bump in the finish. To maintain the integrity of the original piece when restoring it to its former glory - especially when working on a listed home - the use of a good quality fly stripper is crucial.
