I think Mind your language was very popular amongst the ethnic minorities at the time.
Probably because they all knew someone "just off the boat" who would show behavior similar to the stereotype, propably in the same way Goodness Gracious me, Little miss Jecelyn et al are popular.
BTW when i lived in nigeria in 85-86 mind your lanuage was very popular and they even had a nigerian version called second chance with their own regional stereotypes.
This lady was one of the lead characters with her trademark Gele (headscarf).
