Halifax are no more - liquidated over a £500,000 tax bill.

RIP. A byword for crap teams in a half finished stadium. This now brings into question the future of Halifax rugby league as well.

Read the story properly, Paul!

First, they "appear to be heading for liquidation" doesn't equate to "they are no more". Second the reason for aforesaid apparent liquidation is that the tax bill was for £814,000, not the assumed £500,000.

Oh, and third, the worrying thing is that Halifax could be about to fold with debts that are about half (or less) of Oxford's. Our owners are apparently prepared to fund the losses for another season (maybe more), but it's a highly worrying situation.

The update implies they've gone, althought the quote suggests it's ongoing.

That's the worrying sign for Halifax, that Alty is involved in this, they have quite a habit of avoiding relegation by dint of other teams going bust...

bugger.

So sorry... they were always handy in a 'Rochdale - Leeds' fight.

Good luck to them

I think that it's harsh to implicate Altrincham in this. Halifax have fucked themselves up entirely of their own accord - the good news is that The Shay is owned by a trust, so a new club would have somewhere to play (even if one of the stands is still a pile of bricks).

I'm not implicating Altrincham, merely confirming the previous point that they have now twice been the recipient of incredible good fortune at the expense of others in recent years.

The bastards.

It gets worse. It seems now that Borehamfuckingwood have been reprieved thanks to the fallout from the Shaymen disaster.
