The otherwise godforsaken 80s produced the best kits - just enough on them to make them distinctive without being OTT as the 90s omnes were. My favourites were the ones worn by Everton c. 84-85 ( on a great side too, appropriately enough ).

Those Scottish Umbro ones reminded me of the Umbro Welsh away kit that was petrol green with swirly white stripes that I hated at first but grew fond of in the end.

Again, I have spent ages looking for an image but have been foiled here

Gah!

Ahh, y'see I'm of the opposite opinion, I think. It was the 80s (and possibly the late 70s) where 'Fred Perry'-style collars started appearing on football shirts. I consider such devices to be the work of the devil. The best shirts IMHO were the super-simple ones from the 40s & 50s: solid colours, round (or properly-collared)necks, sometimes with laces up the front. I was impressed that Fulham went for almost a 'throwback' shirt to that very era, last season. It's just a shame that the wretched sponsor logo ruined its otherwise clean lines.

Possibly my all-time favourite shirt combines laces and collar (Man Utd 92/93).

I quite like the Bochum one. It looks like I might have designed it as a nine-year-old in the mid '70s. Apparently it was actually designed by the owner of Faber Lotto. He wasn't nine though.

Cardiff City & Wales I've always thought Forest Whitaker would do well. As I get older I am returning to the Custard Cream 3 Bits of Fry & Laurie - The Complete Scripts Jaded Axe Attack Location: East Molesey - it's paradise Birthdate: 1968-12-11

Which prety much makes this thread a replica of last season's one on the same issue.

Where is the New Kit Gallery thread this season?!

Have you given up on trying to impose a rigorous sense of order in such matters?

The current contender.

An earlier option.

Yes I know but people won't stick to them will they? I held back from establishing my own Kit Gallery in the Spring as I did last season thinking it would be good to support someone else's but to no avail. The mutliplicity of Nw Kit threads is like the situation with the Boxing belts now.

I could also do without the monthly " I bet no one else has ever thought of putting up pictures of bad old kits" thread as well.

Yeah, it's anarchy in the UK.

Though the fact that the search facility on the new board is pants doesn't help.

Anyway, Leyton Orient have gotten their braces back:

An example of the Puma flexibility I referred to above, but they seem a bit too far apart to my inexpert eye (not to mention that they should be red on white and extend to the shorts). E10? Oolon?

They got the braces back last season, didn't they?

The problem of their location on the shirt is one of accomodating the sponsor's logo. I really am concerned at what we'll do next season when we try and recreate the classic seventies shirt of renown, I was hoping we'd find a sponsor with a circular logo but I don't think such a pressing issue was even factoed in to our negotiations.

Oh, it's all gone mad now.

This is the bad kits one

The "new kits rip"(?) is the new kit gallery.

Maybe you could persuade them to change the title to the 2008-2009 Ohmigawd to settle the matter.

Thanks for that Welsh pic, Harry, I didn't think of looking for players

That was strange.

It was the jpg drawing from Historical Football Kits, which usually works, and did at first (at least for me), but then turned into a red X 15 minutes after my post.

In any event, next year's version looks rather more "braces like" to my eye.

Actually, I think Orient claimed last season that "THE BRACES ARE BACK" and I made the same comment you just have that they hardly qualify as braces.

Life's essentially cyclical nature has become a real issue for me on here this morning.
