They may well run away with our league, but they seem to be going out of their way to upset people, particularly their own fans:
QUOTE: I can confirm that following a meeting last night between myself, club owner Steve Price, new Commercial Manager Nick Lunn and new IT Consultant Chris Something (we were never introduced) I have in fact been banned from attending any future games at Keys Park. Obviously I am quite upset over this and disppointed that Mr Price has chosen to react in this manner.
I set this site up over four years ago when it was needed and have run it voluntarily ever since meeting all expenses out of my own pocket and never asking for nor receiving anything from the football club in return.
There were several issues discussed at the meeting and I was unable to meet, or in some cases even understand the demands that were laid out before me which were:
The Club wants control over the website... I explained to Mr Price that as far as I am concerned the Club already HAS control of the website, or did he no longer consider me to be a part of the football club? The reality is that I have deliberately designed the website so that I do NOT control the content. The Content Management System that is in place means that anyone who is authorised can post content into the events, commercial and news pages. None of it comes through me, they post what they like and it appears on the site immediately. The only parts of the site that I update myself are the results and league tables.
Mr Lunn then interjected that it wasn't simply the content that he wanted control over but the design aswell. If he wants control over the design and the content then there really is little else left so I suggested that he didn't want to "control" the website, he wanted to replace it and he agreed that that would be the long term aim.
I made it clear that if the club no longer wanted to use this site as the official website and wanted to set up their own then I had no problem with that and they should go ahead and do just that.
Another very major sticking point was the fact that Mr Lunn demanded the email addresses of all 800-ish registered forum members so that he could use them to form a mailing list. I explained that I was unhappy with this as nobody signing up to the forum had been notified that by registering a user account they would also be added to a mailing list. I suggested instead that he set up his own mailing list and let people opt into it if they wished to join. This however was not deemed acceptable. Mr Lunn said that he had "already taken legal advice" on the matter so we shall have to see what transpires on that subject.
There were also various other demands such as moving the website off my server that currently hosts it and transferring ownership of the hednesfordtown.com domain name which is currently in my name. It's been that way for four years and has never been a problem for anyone but with Mr Lunns arrival it seems that this is now vital for the progression of the football club. By this point however it had dawned on Mr Price that he wasn't going to get his own way, something he didn't take too kindly to. He accused me of "playing silly buggers" and left the meeting.
I then went for a pint in the bar as this was just before the match and around ten minutes later Mr Price came in and aked if he could "have a word". He then told me that he didn't want people like me around at his football club, that I should leave immediately and never return to Keys Park. I told him I would finish my pint and leave if he felt that way but he returned a few minutes later and had two stewards escort me from the bar and out of the building. All a bit unnecessary.
Finally, I'd just like to say that I don't have a problem whatsoever with the football club wanting to move on and put up a new website or whatever else it wants to do. If somebody had come to me and said 'Steve, thanks for what you've been doing over the past four years it's appreciated but we feel we need to take the website in a new direction with or without your involvement, can we discuss how to go about that' then I'm sure a very amicable agreement could have been reached. If these people had an ounce of decency between them then that was how they should have gone about achieving what they wanted. Instead I was summoned to what was virtually a lynching party, presented with demands and then banned from the football club when I was unwilling to be pressurised or bullied into accepting them.
At this point I am unsure about the future of the website. I am still trying to get my head around these events and am still quite upset over it all so it would be unwise to make any hasty decisions.
Thanks, if you've managed to read all this.... Steve
